What I Read Today:
Colossians 2; Luke 19; Daniel 1; Psalm 2; 2 Kings 3; Genesis 3-4
In Colossians 2:6-15, Paul gives us a beautiful discourse on the grace of God and the fullness of Christs work of Salvation.
He starts off in verses 6-7, with this, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”NIV
Paul is saying that since Jesus is now in us we need to focus on drawing closer to him. We need to build on our relationship with him.
Why is building on our relationship with Christ so important? Why do we need to continue to grow? Read on in verse 8, “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.” NIV
We need to continue growing in our faith because there is a spirituality in our world that is not from God. Our world is teaching a faith without sacrifice. A religion without repentance. A cross without pain.
Becoming a Christian requires some sacrifice on our part. We need to give up some of the things in the world that we cling to.
Why? Verses 9-15 lay out why. It’s because of what Christ has done for us. It’s because Jesus had given us so much. We can live our lives for Jesus because he gives us strength and power to get through each day.
