What I Read Today;
Revelation 19-20; Jeremiah 42; Psalm 121; 1 Samuel 16
1 Samuel 16 vs. 7, “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” NRSV
Lately, we are seeing a lot of so-called experts on TV. We have fallen in love with the idea that Ph.D.’s and advanced degrees make a person smart. I’ve been involved in multiple situations where an expert was completely wrong.
In athletics, how often do you see a young player missed as a “Can’t-Miss” Prospect, only to see him fall apart.
During the Civil War, President Lincoln went through numerous commanding generals. Each one was perceived as a genius at making war. Yet each one failed until a failed businessman with an average record as a soldier named Ulysses S Grant took over and defeated The southern Armies.
In the 1970s, expert climatologists said we would be in an ice age in the 1990s.
Experts in the 1980s said that personnel computing was for hobbyists and the rich.
The experts are wrong more often than not.
That’s why God doesn’t judge the way that humans judge. He’s not concerned with our looks, or our bank accounts, or our degrees. No, God is interested in our hearts.
Thankfully, God judges us by who we put our faith and trust in.
