What I read today;
James 4; Acts 1; Jeremiah 22; Psalm 56; 2 Samuel 8; Leviticus 1
James 4 vs. 7-10 – “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy into dejection. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”
I love that we are all children of God, because of His grace! I love the fact that Jesus did all the work necessary to provide each one of us salvation.
But I wonder sometimes do we understand that God does expect that what Jesus did is supposed to affect our lives? Do we realize that our lives are now supposed to be an outward expression of thanks to Jesus for what he’s done for us? Do people see Jesus in us each day as we walk the earth?
James sums things up quite nicely when he says, resist the devil and draw near to God. Out of thanks for what God has done for us, we need to resist the temptations to fall back into a life of sin. When we do sin, and we all will, we need to turn back to God in humility and thank him for his forgiveness. Our life should become a living testament to the power of God’s Grace and Mercy.
The incredible thing is that God is standing there waiting for us to seek him out. He stands there with his arms wide open waiting to give us that great big hug like our parents did when we were little.
Do everything you can to avoid the sin that is constantly chasing us. But more importantly, continue to seek out God and his will for your life.
