What I read today;
Revelation 12-13; Acts 17-18; Zechariah 7-8; Proverbs 26; Song of Songs 4; Deuteronomy 29
If you read the Old Testament enough, you will begin to understand that God has two simple rules for our lives.
- Do not worship idols. Worship and Love God more than anything else in the universe. God is jealous and does not like being 2nd in our lives.
- We are to love our neighbors as ourselves and treat others as we would like to be treated. In Zechariah 7 verses 8-10 God repeats, again, that we are to love one another by our words and actions and that this love is to be internal to our very character.
The problem is that as simple as those two rules sound, they are nearly impossible to follow for most human beings.
In spite of our inability to perform God’s commands, chapter 8 of Zechariah proclaims that God will pardon our sins and forgive us. He declares to the scattered Israelites that those believers who hold on to God will come home to be with God himself.
We need to strive to fulfill the words of God and trust that God will always be there to pick up our pieces when we fail.
