What I read today;
2 Corinthians 6; Mark 9; Ezekiel 18-19; Psalm 129; Job 5-6; Numbers 16
There is a tendency for those of us who think that we are secure in our faith to look down on others. Maybe they don’t act the way we would like them to act or maybe they have different rituals than we do.
Jesus condemns this in Mark 9 vs. 38-41. He clearly tells his disciples that anyone who claims Christ as Lord and who is working to expand the kingdom is equally serving God himself.
For those who believe that Christians should be divided into a class system, those who are believing perfectly and those who aren’t Jesus rebuke are stinging.
Furthermore, he warns them in vs. 42-50 of dire consequences of this type of behavior.
But Christians, like any other group of people, like to measure themselves against others. It’s the “my sin is better than your sin” game.
The truth is that we are all sinners. I am a chief example of this. It is only because of the grace of God that I can stand before him and say thank you Lord I am clean because of Jesus work on the cross! Spread the Gospel and then let the Holy Spirit convict people and you will be amazed at the changed lives that you see!
James and John hadn’t learned this lesson yet. But they would. Maybe it’s time for us to learn that lesson as well.
