What I read today;
Exodus 31; 2 Kings 23-24; Psalm 75; Jeremiah 9; Acts 13; 2 Peter 2-3
Our society likes to brag. We like to talk about being the greatest county in the world. Our President tells everyone he’s the greatest President ever. Many of our athletes brag about how phenomenal they are. We have bumper stickers on our cars bragging about our kids, we have houses and cars as status symbols.
Even our churches have become places to brag about. How often have you heard the megachurch pastor remind everyone that his church has thousands of people attending each week, or that they give millions in missions? We even revere the education of many of these ministers by adding Doctor to their title.
But God doesn’t think that bragging is a good thing. In fact, in Jeremiah, he tells us that the only thing we really have to brag about is that we are God’s children. So if we’re going to bost lets do it like this;
Jeremiah 9 vs. 23-24 “Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” ESV
