What I read today:
Genesis 33; 1 Samuel 4-5; Psalm 27; Isaiah 27; Luke 9-10; 1 Corinthians 11
The Ark of the Covenant was one of the most precious gifts that God had given the nation of Israel. It was supposed to be a central part of the worship of the Jewish nation. Hidden inside the tabernacle, the Arc was the place where God would meet his people in worship.
By the time of the reading today in 1 Samuel it had become the worry stone of the nation. When the country got into trouble, they would grab the ark and take it out to where the problem was, somehow believing that the Arc itself would save them.
Often, we view Jesus as our personnel worry stone. We run to God when we have a time of trouble. Once the problem has passed, then we run back to what we were doing before, barely thinking about Jesus.
That’s not what God is looking for from us. He wants us to devote everything we have to him. Our lives, our jobs, the very essence of who we are needs to center around Jesus and his love for us.
