What I read today

1 Kings 7-8; Psalm 148; Ezekiel 25; Mark 3; 1 Corinthians 11

Solomon’s prayer of dedication is something special.  He doesn’t ask God to bless him and the people.  He doesn’t ask God to turn this place into a monument to God.

Instead, he focuses on the true meaning of worship.

He focuses on the house of God being a place of repentance and prayer.  A place for our guilty consciences to go and sit at the foot of the Savior who forgives our sins.  He asks God to forgive the sins that Solomon knows we will commit.

That’s what the church is supposed to be.  A place for repentance and forgiveness.  A place for mercy and grace.
