What I read today
1 Kings 3-4; Psalm 146; Ezekiel 23; Mark 1; 1 Corinthians 8
Psalm 146 says:
“Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help. When their breath departs, they return to the earth, on that day their plans perish.”
We are really good at putting our faith in people. We idolize the actor, we believe the politician, we revere our family members. But the truth is at some point they will all let us down. That’s who we are. Each of us is a sinful person. We fail, and we let others down. We make mistakes and sometimes we are just wrong. So when we put our faith in our pastors, bishops, or other religious leaders eventually we are going to be let down. No person can go their entire life and not let someone down. Just can’t be done. We are all guilty.
So the alternative is to put our faith in the one who will never let us down. Psalm 146 also says:
“Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God.”
Our true worth and value are in the God who created us. That is where our faith and trust should always remain.
