What I read today
Judges 7-8; Psalm 109; Jeremiah 43; Acts 20; 1 John 3-4
In 1 John 3-4 John lets lays everything on the table.
It’s not about us. It’s about what God did for us.
Chapter 3 vs. 1 – “What love the father has given us to be called children of God.”
Chapter 4 vs. 9-10 – “God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
Think about that for a minute. The creator of the universe loves each and every one of us individually. That’s an incredible thought, isn’t it?
How should we respond to that?
Chapter 3 vs. 11 – “For this is the message you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.”
Chapter 3 vs. 14 – “We know that we have passed from death to life because we love one another. Whoever does not love abides in death.”
Love is God’s command. Sounds so simple, doesn’t it? Love the one at work who’s making your life miserable. Love the driver who cut you off in traffic. Love the child who’s out of control in the church. Love the person who’s trashing Christians. Love the boss who’s unreasonable. Love the person who cheated on you.
That’s not easy, is it?
