What I read today
Deuteronomy 31-32; Psalm 92; Jeremiah 26; Acts 3; Hebrews 5
I wonder what Jeremiah thought when God told him what to say. I’m pretty sure by this point in his ministry he knew this wasn’t going to go down well.
People don’t like hearing what God has to say. They don’t like being told that they need a savior. Some people especially don’t want to be told that they need to repent and change what they are doing. You’ll really get people in an uproar if you say that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ.
Recently, I got involved in a discussion about gun control with a friend of mine who’s a teacher. He believes that gun control is something we should pursue to stop gun violence. I said I didn’t think guns were necessarily the problem. I said I thought our issue was moral. I believe that at the root of our problem was the fact that we as a society are losing the idea that each human life is precious. That set off a firestorm. Not from my friend who I was speaking with who actually agreed with me. Others who saw the post went nuts. I got numerous responses from people about Christians shoving their beliefs down people’s throats.
Be prepared, if you engage in this type of discussion. God will be with you, but you might get an unexpected reaction from those you thought you new and from those you’ve never met. God’s word doesn’t always bring friends.
