What I read today
Deuteronomy 13-14; Psalm 83; Jeremiah 17; John 15; 2 Timothy 4
“Love as I have loved you.”
Meditate on that for a minute.
How did Jesus love us?
Jesus was the creator of the universe. He resided in heaven. Jesus gave up paradise, left the presence of the father and became a human. He gave up everything to come and be with us.
He walked among us. He chose to live as a human. He endured all the same physical and emotional issues we experience. He put up with cold and heat, sweat, allergies and every other form of sickness.
He endured people. People who mistreated him, people who mistrusted him, people who lied to him, people who schemed against him, and people who doubted him.
He taught people. He taught people who didn’t get what he was selling. He taught people who didn’t want to learn. He put up with people who were slow to learn. He put up with people who wanted to take his message and radicalize it and use it to punish others.
He took a punishment he didn’t deserve. He was beaten, he was humiliated, Jesus was mocked, ridiculed, tortured, and executed. And Jesus did it willingly so that you and I could have life eternal.
So that’s how much he loved me. That’s how much I’m supposed to love others.
Not such a simple command is it?
