What I read today
Exodus 15-16; Psalm 33; Isaiah 33; Mark 5; 2 Corinthians 1
We put our hope in a lot of things, don’t we?
We put our hope in people, only to be let down.
We put our hope in our careers, only to have a new owner or supervisor destroy that hope.
We put our hope in our countries, only to have our politicians fail to do what is right.
We put our hope in our spouses only to lose them to disease, time or divorce.
In the end, we put our hope in things that are fleeting and leave us empty and lost.
But Psalm 33 says “Truly the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and shield. Our heart is glad in him because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.”
You see, we can put our absolute faith and trust in the Lord. He promises to be there for each of us. He promises that no matter how many times we’re let down, no matter how many times others fail us, no matter how many times life beats us down, that he will be there next to us. And when it’s all over and done, he will bring us to his heavenly home. He will bring us to him for eternity in a place where there will be no more pain, no more tears, no more hurt and no more betrayal.
