What I read today
Exodus 11-12; Psalm 31; Isaiah 31; Mark 3; 1 Corinthians 15
Imagine the Jewish people sitting in Egypt. They’d seen all the plagues nearly ruin Egypt. Yet somehow Pharoah held out. Fields, livestock, crops, boils, and sores. Nothing seemed to change Pharoahs mind.
Then Moses tells them to go get a 1-year-old lamb. It can’t have any defect whatsoever. He tells them to take the sheep and slaughter it. Take some of the blood and put it on the doorposts.
Must have seemed kind of strange. But they did it anyway.
Then that night all the firstborn in Egypt died. But all those with the blood on the doorposts lived.
Had to be stunning, didn’t it?
4000 years later a spear pierced this side of a man on the cross allowing blood and water to drain onto the ground. Blood was everywhere on the man’s body from the scourging he’d received.
That blood covers over our sins today.
Today when God’s judgment on our lives comes, when we stand before God deserving judgment for our failures and outright sins. At that moment God will only see Jesus blood and righteousness.
The destroyer will pass over us!
There are so many who will be like the Egyptians that day. The destroyer won’t see Jesus blood and won’t pass over them. Pray for each one of them, that they may know Jesus the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
