What I read today
Genesis 43 & 44; Psalm 22; Isaiah 22; Matthew 22; 1 Corinthians 6
Matthew 22 verses 36 through 40 what Jesus says sounds so simple, doesn’t it?
I mean we all love God, don’t we? But do we love him with our whole heart? Do we live our lives for him? Do we serve him? Do we tell other people about him and what he’s done for us? Do we trust him with everything we have?
How about our love for our neighbors. Do we help our neighbors when they are hurting? Do we think the best of our neighbors? Do we avoid those neighbors whom we don’t like?
Sounds so simple, doesn’t it? In the end, the greatest commandment is virtually impossible to follow.
So what do we do? We fall on Jesus grace and mercy. We ask him to help put the love of God into our hearts. We ask that he continue chipping away at our hearts of stone so that we can truly love our neighbors.
Finally, we thank him for his forgiveness and sacrifice on the cross because we simply can’t meet the standards. We thank him because, in spite of our being totally unworthy of him, he loved us so much that he stepped out of Heaven and went all the way to the cross so that you and I could spend eternity with him.
Today, thank Jesus for living the life we couldn’t so we could have the gift we didn’t deserve.
